IV. January's Odyssey

January has been a very satisfying and enriching month for me. As we returned for the Spring semester, the program resumed with a mini module on Reproductive Pharmacology. This mini module would have to have been one of my favorite modules. My favorite activity that we completed during the module would have to be the case-based learning sessions. I genuinely enjoy learning through case-based learning, and I am excited to complete more of these activities in the future. My favorite lecture from this module would have to be Age and Gender Effects on Drug Responses. Upon completion of the mini module on Reproductive Pharmacology, we transitioned into learning about Endocrine Pharmacology. Learning more about conditions such as Diabetes has been interesting as I have immediate family members who are faced with this condition.

Professionally, I have been keeping my mentor up to date with my progress within the program, and she has been giving me amazing guidance on my journey to medicine. In addition, I have begun to plan on what my next steps are after the completion of this program to prepare to apply for medical school. I hope to be admitted into a summer enrichment program in which I believe would be extremely beneficial for me and my journey. With the resources and knowledge of this program and the additional opportunities that have been granted to me, I firmly believe that I am on a great path to medicine.

Furthermore, this month I have completed the process of being a volunteer at the University Medical Center within the Emergency and Oncology departments. I am so thrilled to be able to aid in some capacity to the healthcare industry and learn more within my volunteering. I plan on continuing to volunteer with Samaritan Multi-Services Centered on Living (SMCL) Foundation and Associates as well during this Spring semester.

As the program continues, I hope to continue to prosper academically, professionally, and personally. I have seen such a major transition of myself as a student within this program, and I truly love it. The beginning of the Spring semester has been off to a beautiful start.
